Queen’s Scout/Gold DofE Award Expeditions 2022 – Local Lowland Option
5th March 2022 - 26th July 2022
When is this happening?
All three of the following events must be attended in 2022 to complete the section within the time frame of the DofE Local Gold Expedition under the “DofE With A Difference” requirements, which expires at the end of 2022.
- Training Weekend - 10:00 Saturday 5 - Sunday 6 March 2022 15:00 - 2-day training event at Kent Scouts, Lower Grange Farm, Grange Lane, Sandling, Maidstone, ME14 3DA. During this event, teams will start their training, undertake a “Shakedown” hike to evaluate their skills, plan their expeditions, and camp overnight. Participants need to be fully self-sufficient for this event.
- Practice Expedition - 29 April – 2 May 2022 - 3-night camp in the Ashdown Forest in East Sussex, where participants will undertake 3-day Gold DofE/QSA practice expedition. Each team is led by an experienced Supervisor who has responsibility for their walking and safety. The base location will be confirmed with the team at the Training Weekend and will be based on where they choose to start and finish their expedition event.
- Assessed Expedition – 22 – 26 July 2022 - 4-night camp in the South Downs, West Sussex, where participants will undertake a 4-day Gold DofE/QSA qualifying expedition. Each team is led by an experienced Supervisor who has responsibility for their walking and safety, supported by a DofE Expedition Assessor. The base location will be confirmed with the team at the Training Weekend and will be based on where they choose to start and finish their expedition event. Additional online team meetings with supervisors can be arranged between practice and qualifying expeditions to advise on planning issues.
How much does it cost?
The cost is £120, this includes all camp fees for training, practice and qualifying events, booking of a Supervisor (and Assessor for qualifying expeditions) for the expeditions, training materials for the March event, and maps for expeditions. Participants will need to arrange their own transport to and from all events, (we can arrange pick up from local stations), and to be self-sufficient for the duration of all the events, providing all equipment, tents, food and stoves to cook for themselves. Kit lists will be provided.
This is payable via bank transfer, details of which will be given upon sign up.
How do we sign up?
That is the easy part! We have an online form which you can use for all 3 parts of the event.
Bookings will close on 23rd February 2022
This series of expeditions is being led by the County DofE Support Team.
