Queen’s Scout/Gold DofE Award Expeditions - Easter 2022

What is it?
This is a 5night camp in the Lake District, where participants will undertake 2 days of training, with a 3-day Gold DofE/QSA practice expedition in wild country terrain. Each team is led by an experienced Supervisor who has responsibility for their walking and safety in the hills.
The event is based at Rydal Hall (OS Map Ref: NY 365 063). This campsite is in the heart of the Lake District, close to Rydal Water, and is a short walk northwest of the town of Ambleside, which has many shops for both food and equipment shopping.
Participants will need to be self-sufficient for the duration of the event, providing all equipment (a list will be provided at the Shake Down Hike) and food to cook for themselves.
How do we prepare:
Prior to the expedition, we have 2 events which must be attended by all participants;
- Information on the event and “Meet the Supervisor”, which takes place on Sunday 30th January 2022 – 09:30 to 13:00 which takes place at Hopehill Scout Campsite, Wrotham Road, Meopham DA13 0QJ. During this meeting we will organise teams between those who have chosen to participate, get information about the event and meet with the supervisors.
- Shake Down Hike and Training part 1, which takes place 10:00 Saturday 5th to Sunday 6th March 2022 15:00 which takes place at Kent Scouts, Lower Grange Farm, Grange Lane, Sandling, Maidstone, ME14 3DA. During this event, teams will plan their expedition, undertake a training hike, start the training and camp overnight, being fully self-sufficient for the event.
How much does it cost?
The cost is £130, this includes all camp fees (for both the March and April events), travel to/from the Lake District and during the event, booking of a Supervisor for the event and training materials for the March event. Food is not included in this cost.
This is payable via bank transfer, details of which will be given upon sign up.
